Acid neutralizer
A dissolving calcite or calcite/magnesia bed that raises pH on acidic wells and adds hardness in the process.
- What it actually does
- Increases pH by dissolving alkaline media so downstream oxidation and ion exchange can work, and so plumbing sees less aggressive water.
- What it does not do
- Does not soften (it adds hardness), does not remove sulfur odor, and does not replace a certified metals test if corrosion is already happening.

- Typical use
- Private wells with pH below EPA’s 6.5–8.5 secondary range, or with copper staining and corrosion evidence, installed *before* iron filters and softeners.
- Certification language
- Media should be suitable for drinking-water contact (often discussed as NSF/ANSI 61 on the media sheet). That is not a performance listing for pH. Verify outlet pH with a lab or calibrated meter.
